I already have a PDA, can I use it for Flymap?

Almost certainly provided it meets the minimum specification, we would recommend checking the PDA model with us prior to purchase, however.

What is the minimum PDA specification required to run Flymap?

Basic requirements of the PDA are as follows: Windows Mobile 2002 or later, at least 64Mb RAM, either 240x320 or 320x240 or 460x640 or 640x480 resolution touch-screen.

So why should I buy my a complete system direct through you rather than doing it all myself?

First, because our price is very competitive. Secondly because we do a lot of testing and always select the best PDA and memory card for the job. Thirdly because Flymap will arrive pre-installed and ready to go. Fourthly, because we set up the PDA in such a way as to give the best performance from Flymap (there are many settings to change), and finally because, it is very difficult for us to give effective technical support when we cannot be sure of the hardware that is being used.

Can I use Flymap in many different aircraft?

Yes, the unit will come with a 12v 'cigarette lighter' adaptor, or alternatively can be run off a battery. We can supply additional high-performance batteries.

How do I learn to use Flymap?

Flymap has a unique 'Demo-Mode' function which allows the aircraft to be flown 'virtually' without leaving the ground.

Can I do without my compass and map when using Flymap?

No, Flymap is not a legal replacement for these items and should not be relied upon as the only means of navigation.

Can I buy maps for other countries?

Jeppesen maps are available for foreign counties. We offer a scan and calibrate service and can supply almost any map within reason.

Can I use my PalmPilot / Blackberry?

No, sadly these systems don't have sufficient processing power for Flymap.

How much current does Flymap draw?

Flymap draws approximately 300mA.

When can I update my maps?

You can receive new maps either as a subscription or as a one-off update.

What do I do when I have a problem?

We will certainly help with any problem you may have. Simply contact us.

Can I continue to use the PDA to run other software?

Yes, of course you can, and indeed we can supply you with other software such as Tomtom Navigator for car navigation. However, please end all other programs before you start Flymap.

Can I also use different GPS receiver?

In principle, you can use any NMEA-compatible GPS Receiver which will connect with your PDA. However, not all GPS Receivers supply you with all of the necessary information and some are more accurate and durable than others.
