  The Flymap Planning Process

Planning with Flymap Win is very simple, here we take you through the process and show why Flymap Win is the perfect package either as a standalone or to go with a Flymap navigation system.

Decide where you want to go Minimize

CAA Chart.jpg

First things first - Flymap can incorporate many different chart formats, so you can always plan on a chart with which you are familiar.

 Check the weather Minimize

Weather 2.jpgIt's essential to know what the weather is going to do, so Flymap allows you to download and view the weather directly overlaid onto the map. It is colour coded by severity and you can also download and animate previous weather pictures in order to show trends. This service requires a subscription.

 Input Your Route Minimize

half mill planning extract.jpgThere are a variety of ways to plan your route in Flymap Win, but the most usual is to select a start and destination airfield and then simply click and drag the route to avoid restricted airspace and hazards

 Check NOTAMs Minimize

Flymap Win allows you to automatically download and visually display NOTAMs overlaid directly onto the map. Hovering your mouse over the NOTAM displays the text and validity. Having the NOTAMs visually on the map makes it  very easy to check that you haven't missed anything on the AIS. The user has the option either to leave a NOTAM on the map or remove it, leaving only the NOTAMs relevant to the flight. This service requires a subscription.

Check the Height and Airspace Along the Route Minimize

Elevation Profile.jpgChecking the elevation profile not only alerts you of high ground on the route (brown) but also allows you to double check the height and position of restricted airspace (blue).

Check the Route in Google Earth Minimize

Google Earth.jpg

This feature allows you to view your route in 3d complete with restricted airspace the correct levels in Google Earth, which is a free tool from Google. This is useful for two reasons: The first is that you can double check restricted airspace and the second is that you can see what your destination airfield is going to look like from the approach direction (see the bottom photo which is of EGTB)

 Print PLOGs and Flightplans Minimize

VFR Plog small.jpgWhen you're ready, you can print off one of a selection of PLOGs and/or an international flight plan

Send the Route to Pocket PC or USB Memory Stick Minimize

Sendtomap.jpgIt's now a simple one-button function to send the route either to your Pocket PC or to a USB memory stick (for the L/XL systems). You can also very simply transfer user-defined airfields, weather, flightlogs and checklists.

 Get Airbourne! Minimize

Go Fly.jpgYou can now jump in the aircraft and switch on your system to start navigating. In the case of the Pocket PC the route should already be on your system, if you have the L/XL systems you can easily transfer the route by putting the memory stick into the USB port at the front.
